New to Numismatics and Coin collecting

I got my hands on a ""Official US Mint- Lincoln Cents"" Book/Binder, Brand New for Free...

It has pages with holes for all the coins to go into and each spot numbered for the years between 1909 and 1973 including the different Mints....

Obviously, you want the best quality coins to go in here, but I looked thought a a gallon jug of pennies we had laying around and found like 20 pennies that were from 1950 to 1973...

Is it worth using those, or do these all have to be the uncirculated graded kind to really have something worh mention???

I mean I don't expect it to be worth a millon, but will it be worth ore than the 216 cents it holds???

Keep in mind, I'm new to this, but I think its cooler and more challanging to actually dig around and collect all the years than to just go to apmex or some of the other online coin brokers and throw them all on the Credit card...

To me it kinda takes the fun out....

My 9 year old daughter and I had fun going though that big thing of pennies in search of one for our collection...

It really supprised me as I never thought she'd get ito it, but now she wants to do a book for Dimes and Nickels and one for Quarters...

Also, I didn't know it, but she had a bag of quarters stashed from the ones that I had been giving her every now... Shes been collecting them and has about 80% of all those Statehood Quarters...

You're spending time with your 9 year old daughter? Having fun, doing something you both enjoy? She's excited about spending time with you?

Yeah, it will be worth more than the $2.16 you put in it. It will be almost priceless. Don't worry about the actual value of the coins. If you fill the penny book, work on dimes or quarters or whatever. Maybe you can fill it and then spend time looking for "nicer" specimens than you already have.

For now, as far as that penny book goes, just enjoy the time with your child. That's more important, and much more valuable, than any book of pennies ever will be. Life is too short to miss out on something like this with your child, just because you didn't have the perfect pennies! :proud:

Just my opinion. I live for doing things like this with my little girls.

Maybe when you get done filling the books, you can get rolls of change from the bank and you and her could sort through them and look for the "prettier" ones to replace the more worn/tarnished ones with. As long as you both enjoy it, I'd do it. She'll also never forget the time you and her put together this huge collection of coins. Like silverbullet said, It will be worth way more than the value of the collection.

I have no kids, but a friend of mine has a daughter with an ex girlfriend and she always lived with the mother and between that and his job he never saw her much. All of the sudden now she's 18 and in college and he regrets it badly. He also has a 10 year old son with his wife and because of missing out on his daughter he spends as much time as possible with his son. Bottom line, Do as much as possible with your kid because before you know it you'll be driving her off to college and she'll have a life of her own.

from an investment point of view only, if you are new at this, when buying silver/gold, do not buy numismatics, you will likely get burned...

Having fun with your kids is great, just keep the 2 seperate ....
